Why Basix?
Basix creates “last mile healthcare” solutions that fill access gaps for patients, employees and students. We work with health plans, brokers, employers and higher ed institutions to bridge the divide between traditional healthcare delivery, technology, and the end consumer.
We swim in multiple streams, which gives us valuable cross-disciplinary insight into multiple problem domains and lets us leverage our insights from one domain to another. Our goal is to increase access to healthcare resources, increase self-directed care, increase member satisfaction and reduce costs.
Think of us as three sides of a triangle, or three legs on a stool.


Connection
Connection is the first leg of the stool. The complexity of modern provider networks combined with emerging technology creates a last mile challenge for health plans. Traditional healthcare solutions–covered benefits, self-directed resources, discounted marketplace–are successful; yet, connecting plan members to the relevant solutions at the right time is challenging.
To give one small example of this puzzle: mental and behavioral health. Wait times to receive mental healthcare can be six months or more. How do you connect students and members with the right in-person providers at the right time, when they need it the most? Or, if a self-directed mental health app is the right choice for a member, how do you encourage them to find and use this technology in coordination with traditional covered benefits?
Making these connections and solving the “last mile” problem closes key gaps while improving quality of care, member satisfaction, and controlling costs.
Customization
Customization is the second leg of the stool. Think of us as “network tailors” for customized healthcare networks. While most health plans address the majority of healthcare needs, gaps naturally exist. For example, many specialized providers like psychiatrists and psychologists are in short supply relative to demand and often refuse to contract with larger insurers because they:
- want a smaller pool of members than large insurers provide;
- need streamlined administrative processes, or;
- value the quality and simplicity of direct connections.
At the same time, these sought-after providers desire a direct connection to help serve your members. Basix identifies and closes important “last mile” access gaps for your members by creating small networks of special relationships directly with providers.
Some examples of our custom networks are:
- Supplemental and exclusive mental health provider networks to improve mental healthcare access.
- Partnerships with established provider networks, bolstering and expanding existing plans, e.g.: workers comp clinics, dentists, vision providers.
- Curated suites of self-directed healthcare technology, which can improve care, improve member experience, and reduce out-of-pocket cost.


Creation
Creation is the final leg of the stool. Basix focuses on “Win/Win/Win Creation” that benefits health plans, members, providers and vendors.
True innovation is difficult with existing networks and standard approaches. Alongside our partners, we seek to identify important access gaps, then co-create solutions to bridge or close the gaps. Solutions typically involve:
- coordination of special provider/vendor relationships;
- integration of existing operating resources and technology;
- marketing and analytics, helping members connect with the resources they need to create and update their self-directed care system.
The special relationships we create with providers and vendors makes it possible to:
- offer self-directed care innovations such as AI-enhanced mental health assessments. These are important tools to alleviate depression and anxiety, and to enable self-learning, self-care and self-monitoring.
- implement more sensible “triage” mechanisms to reduce the time and difficulty of finding the right healthcare provider.
- improve integration with your plan’s existing system of resources; for example, EAP and telemedicine services.
