Solving “Last Mile Connection” Problems in Healthcare
Basix, LLC has been creating “last mile” healthcare solutions since 1997. Last mile healthcare problems occur when members can’t access care, new innovations and non-covered services in a convenient and cost-effective manner.
Our first efforts were the result of our founder John Fry’s employment with the University of Utah School of Medicine. While at the U of U John Fry created:
- On-site clinics for employers wanting to improve access and convenience for employees and family members.
- Package pricing for common orthopedic procedures and unusual oncology services.
- Exclusive access programs for physical therapy and ophthalmology.
- Exclusive full service networks for special populations in student health and those with Medicaid coverage.
Presently, Basix creates and manages last mile services that allow members to:
- Access a full range of outpatient mental health services, with the most desired local providers, most of whom don’t participate with standard insurer networks.
- Access a variety of non-covered services which enhance the value of the member’s health plan.
- Access all manner of dental services for members that don’t have traditional dental insurance.
In the future, last mile connection issues will be prominently driven by:
- Member managed self-care made possible by technology and remote services,
- Health care providers opting out of traditional practice in favor of attracting and providing care to patients outside the traditional health plan structure.
- The move to remote work and the gig economy making those members “privateers” in their purchase decisions for many types of care.
- Increasing cost pressure on health plan sponsors making patients responsible for more types of health care costs.
Our reputation and approach to innovation is focused and in-context for specific challenges faced by members, health plans and plan sponsors.
If members are dissatisfied with the ability to get care, it is likely a “last mile solution” could help.
If members are responsible for purchasing more types of common care directly, last mile solutions are key.
If health plan sponsors want to integrate new technology and care approaches without driving up claims costs our solutions help.
